At Cherry Orchard Pediatric Dentistry, we understand the importance a child’s oral health plays in their overall well-being. We also remember what it is like to be young and the uncertainty that can accompany new experiences. That is why we have made it our mission to provide all children with the quality preventative dental care they deserve in the fun, friendly, and comfortable setting they need. We also provide helpful at-home oral hygiene tips and tricks so you and your child have the resources to establish better habits that will last a lifetime.

Oral health begins with a child’s first tooth! If your child is at least 1 year old or their first tooth has emerged, the AAPD recommends scheduling an appointment with your local pediatric dentist. Dental checkups are also recommended every 6 months, which is why choosing a provider who is dedicated to your child’s health and comfort is essential. Dr. Lisa and her team at Cherry Orchard are excited to meet you and your child as you take the first step towards maintaining their happy, healthy, cavity-free smile!

Exam

Exam

Did you know dental exams can be comprehensive and engaging? Dr. Lisa’s unique approach to dental exams is tailored to children. She uses songs, games, and kid-friendly terminology to guide your child through treatment and help them feel at ease during their visit. As a parent, you can rest assured knowing Dr. Lisa assesses the gums, tongue, and hard tissues during the oral exam for full-mouth health. In the event there are areas of plaque, decay, or abnormalities, Dr. Lisa will recommend the treatment best suited to your child’s specific needs.

Cleaning (Prophylaxis)

Prophylaxis is a routine dental cleaning and is essential to preserving the health of a child’s smile. Similar to her exams, Dr. Lisa alleviates stress and fear by introducing your child to her “friends” — the dental tools used during the cleaning. At Cherry Orchard, a gentle approach can assist us in providing the most in-depth cleaning appointment, removing plaque, calculus (tartar), and stains that a regular toothbrush may leave behind.

X-Rays

Diagnostic imaging allows us to see more than we can with the naked eye, including between the teeth and under the gums. The AAPD recommends x-rays every 6 months so that we can monitor the growth of adult teeth and catch any signs of tooth decay before it advances. Every child is different, even when it comes to x-rays! Dr. Lisa will consult with you on an individual basis depending on your child’s needs and how quickly their mouth, jaw, and teeth grow and change.

Fluoride Treatment

Our fluoride treatment helps strengthen tooth enamel while combating tooth sensitivity and preventing decay. During treatment, Dr. Lisa carefully applies the solution to your child’s teeth so it is not ingested. For best results, make sure toothbrushes (and fingers) stay out of our child’s mouth for 12 hours.

Although we recommend that most of our patients schedule fluoride treatment every 6 months, we understand some parents prefer a fluoride-free experience. We are happy to accommodate your preferences and adjust your child’s treatment plan as needed.

Dental Sealants Icon

Sealants

Dental sealants are a preventative treatment designed to help protect your child’s teeth from cavities. They are made of a thin resin material that safely and easily fills the pits and grooves of the teeth to seal the surface from germs, food, and plaque that may cause harm.

Dr. Lisa begins by cleaning the child’s teeth with a laser or handpiece. Then, she applies the protective coating and hardens it with an LED blue light. After the sealant hardens, Dr. Lisa makes sure your child’s bite is aligned and comfortable so they can continue to be kids but with the added protection of a dental sealant!
